About

Concept

Let’s make Fukuoka City a mecca for engineers!

With this aspiration in mind, the Engineer Cafe project started as a joint effort involving
public and private sectors.

Engineering Ecosystem

The facility pursues diversity to create an engineering ecosystem with both individuals and
communities at its core. New encounters lead to growth and collaboration
that then facilitate the production of a wide variety of deliverables in quick succession.

Supporting Individuals and Communities

We provide consultations for computer engineers,
people associated with them, and those hoping to become computer engineers.
In this way, we support creating an environment where you can flourish.

The Engineer Cafe was born as part of "Engineer Friendly City Fukuoka"
initiative aimed at making the city a place where
engineers can gather, be active, and grow.

About Architecture

Fukuoka Akarenga Cultural Center

The Fukuoka Akarenga Cultural Center (registered as a cultural property under the name “The Former Kyushu Branch of Nippon Life Assurance Co., Inc.”) was originally established as a company building of Nippon Life Assurance Company in 1909. 2019 marks the building’s 110th anniversary.

It was designated by the national government as an Important Cultural Property in 1969, and ownership was then transferred to Fukuoka City. After serving as the Fukuoka City Historical Museum since 1972, the building was renovated as the Fukuoka Akarenga Cultural Center in 1994. Meeting rooms on the second floor have been open to citizens as a venue for cultural activity for a fee.

The building was designed by TATSUNO Kingo, a doctor of engineering dubbed as the father of modern Japanese architecture. He is known for designing the Tokyo Station’s Central Terminal and the Tokyo head office of the Bank of Japan. This building is acclaimed as one of his most typical works, representing the “Tatsuno Style”, his unique free-classic style of architecture featuring red brick embellished with white granite.
